Quick Question

Does anyone out there know if I can have a buttercream cake and still put a silk ribbon on it...like the pic above? Or does it have to be something like fondant or marzipan? I'm just thinking about the consistency of buttercream....will it be too "mushy" to hold a ribbon nicely?
So please, anyone knowledgeable in this field.... I'd really appreciate some insight.

  1. no, it will make your ribbon look like it's been saturated in oil.

  2. There's NO reason that a good baker can't just make a strip of fondant to sit behind your ribbon. That way you can have your cake AND eat it too :)
...Cause nobody wants to eat fondant. Yuck-city.
