To Tackle A Necklace-DIY

My next upcoming project will be an attempt to create my own necklace for my wedding day. Now, keep in mind.....I've never made any type of jewelry. I have been very lucky in finding some really great, inexpensive jewelry pieces, but I have not bought (or even looked for) a necklace because I've known from near the very beginning of my planning process that I wanted to make one myself.
I'll be using fishing wire for the cord, as I will be using the fishing wire for many other projects for the wedding (including hanging paper lanterns). I also tossed in a couple of bracelets I already had in order to maybe incorporate the pearl beads from them into the necklace. Also (not shown) are pliers and a beading board. I forgot to take a picture of them. =(
The only thing I need to run to Michael's for is a bead crimping tool. And how do I know this??? Well, from watching jewelry making videos on YouTube, of course!
So, I don't know exactly when I will get to this project, but it's sitting there waiting for me to play with it and hopefully I'll have accomplished a beautiful necklace before the end of next week. That's the plan, anyways. Wish me luck!
Is anyone planning on making their own jewelry?

  1. No but I am dreading searching for the perfect jewelry. I do not want to spend a lot, and costume jewelry is just fine with me. I do think I will wear pearls also. Good luck!

  2. I wouldn't know where to start. I was actually lucky enough to get some gift cards for xmas and quickly used them to buy my jewelry since I can't seem to find bargains like you. Good luck with the necklace, I think it will be awesome.

  3. Good luck! I'm not making my own jewelry, but my aunt is making earrings and necklaces for my bridesmaids. She is very talented and even has her own little side business here in SF. I'm very lucky to have her helping me out on this.
